WORKING PAPER

THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WAQF-BASED ZAWIYAH AND QURANIC MADRASAH

A CENTRE FOR WORSHIP, KNOWLEDGE, TARBIYAH AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This paper proposes the establishment of a Waqf-based Zawiyah and Madrasah Al-Quran as a permanent institution dedicated to the worship of Allah, the preservation of the Quran, spiritual development, Islamic education, leadership training, community service and sustainable agricultural development.

The project revives the classical Islamic model whereby a Zawiyah serves as a centre for worship, remembrance of Allah, learning, character development and service to society. At the heart of the Zawiyah will be a small but high-quality Madrasah Al-Quran accommodating not more than twenty students at any one time.

The project will be financed primarily through Waqf contributions involving land, buildings, facilities, construction materials, equipment, agricultural assets and cash endowments.

The ultimate objective is to establish a self-sustaining institution that continues to benefit future generations as a source of Sadaqah Jariyah.

2. BACKGROUND

• Agricultural and economic self-sufficiency

The proposed project seeks to revive this tradition in a contemporary setting by integrating Quranic education, tarbiyah, agriculture and community development under a permanent Waqf structure.
